Molecules with ALMA at Planet-forming Scales (MAPS). XI. CN and HCN as Tracers of Photochemistry in Disks

چکیده

UV photochemistry in the surface layers of protoplanetary disks dramatically alters their composition relative to previous stages star formation. The abundance ratio CN/HCN has long been proposed trace field various astrophysical objects, however date relationship between CN, HCN, and remains ambiguous. As part ALMA Large Program MAPS (Molecules with at Planet-forming Scales), we present observations CN N=1-0 transitions 0.3'' resolution towards five disk systems. All show bright emission within $\sim$50-150 au, along a diffuse shelf extending up 600 au. In all sources find that column density increases radius from about unity 100, likely tracing increased penetration enhances selective HCN photodissociation outer disk. Additionally, multiple millimeter dust gaps rings coincide peaks troughs, respectively, ratio, implying some substructures are accompanied by changes more elevated layers. That is generally high (>1) points robust shaping chemical compositions, also means dominant carrier prebiotically interesting nitrile group most radii. We local densities positively correlated despite emitting vertically stratified regions, indicating different chemically linked. This paper special issue Astrophysical Journal Supplement.

From Molecular Cores to Planet-forming Disks with SIRTF

The SIRTF mission and the Legacy programs will provide coherent data bases for extra-galactic and Galactic science that will rapidly become available to researchers through a public archive. The capabilities of SIRTF and the six legacy programs are described briefly. Then the cores to disks (c2d) program is described in more detail. The c2d program will use all three SIRTF instruments (IRAC, MI...

Planet-planet Scattering in Planetesimal Disks

We study the final architecture of planetary systems that evolve under the combined effects of planet-planet and planetesimal scattering. Using N-body simulations we investigate the dynamics of marginally unstable systems of gas and ice giants both in isolation and when the planets form interior to a planetesimal belt. The unstable isolated systems evolve under planet-planet scattering to yield...

Molecules as Tracers of PN Structure

Molecular gas plays an important role in the structure of planetary nebulae: it is a major component of the equatorial tori of bipolar nebulae, it forms the cores of globules and related mircostructures, and is the likely origin of multiple arcs. It is also a key component during the early stages of formation where interactions with outflows or jets provide an important shaping mechanism.

Star and Planet Formation with ALMA: an Overview

Submillimeter observations with ALMA will be the essential next step in our understanding of how stars and planets form. Key projects range from detailed imaging of the collapse of pre-stellar cores and measuring the accretion rate of matter onto deeply embedded protostars, to unravelling the chemistry and dynamics of high-mass star-forming clusters and highspatial resolution studies of protopl...
